REJUVENIQE® Oil: What's Really Inside MONAT's Signature Oil?
5 min read · Ingredients · Anna Schulenburg
REJUVENIQE® Oil Intensive is MONAT's botanical signature oil: a blend of more than 13 plant and essential oils built around rare Abyssinian oil (Crambe abyssinica). It's not a miracle cure but a carefully composed care oil — featherlight, non-greasy, with a silky finish. And precisely because of that, understanding what it can and can't do is how you get the most out of it.
What's inside REJUVENIQE® oil?
The heart of the formula is Abyssinian oil from the seeds of Crambe abyssinica, a relative of rapeseed from the Ethiopian highlands. At around 50–65%, it contains the highest share of erucic acid (C22:1) of any known plant oil — a long-chain, monounsaturated omega-9 fatty acid. These long chains are exactly what defines the oil's character: the molecules are too large to penetrate the hair fiber. Instead, they settle on the surface as an ultra-thin, even film, smoothing the cuticle and holding moisture inside the hair.
Added to that are more than a dozen other plant oils and extracts, including meadowfoam, camellia, baobab, buriti and moringa oils, plus Tahitian monoï extract. Together they create a deliberately lightweight oil profile with good oxidation stability — meaning it doesn't go rancid as quickly as many polyunsaturated oils.
Why does it feel like silicone — without any silicone?
Abyssinian oil has a sensory profile that cosmetics chemists describe as “silicone-like”: extremely light, a velvety glide, no greasy after-feel. That's why it's considered a natural alternative to classic silicones — it delivers shine and combability without building up layer by layer the way insoluble silicones do.
What can the oil do — and what can't it?
Honestly put: REJUVENIQE® is a coating oil. It wraps the hair instead of “repairing it from within” — and that's precisely its strength. Realistically, you can expect:
- Shine, because a smooth cuticle reflects light more evenly.
- Smoothness and frizz control, because the oil film lays down raised cuticle scales and tames flyaways.
- Sealed-in moisture, when you apply it to damp hair.
- Softness without weight — even on finer hair, when dosed sparingly.
A stubborn myth: “Oil moisturizes.” It doesn't — oil contains no water. It seals in the moisture that's there, but doesn't replace it. And no oil in the world permanently mends split ends or changes how your hair grows. Whether your hair currently needs moisture, protein or simply a better finish is what the free hair analysis shows you in a few minutes.
How do you apply REJUVENIQE® oil correctly?
The official application follows a simple logic — first treat intensively, then finish with a precise dose:
Step 1 — Pre-wash treatment. Spread the oil over your scalp and lengths in the evening and let it work overnight — or take the quick route: 3–4 drops on damp hair, wrap in a warm towel, wait 30 minutes.
Step 2 — Wash out gently. Then wash your hair as usual with a mild shampoo. The oil film protects the fiber from swelling during the wash.
Step 3 — Finish on the ends. Apply 1–2 drops to towel-dried or dry hair — lengths and ends only, never the roots. More technique details are in the guide on how to use hair oil.
Which hair is it right for?
Thanks to its lightness, REJUVENIQE® Oil Intensive suits most hair types — especially dry, frizzy and unruly hair. For very fine or quickly oily hair there's REJUVENIQE light by MONAT™: the lighter version, likewise used sparingly with 1–2 drops on the ends. Your consultant will work out which version and dosage fit your profile.
Quick questions
Does REJUVENIQE® oil weigh down fine hair? Dosed sparingly (1–2 drops, ends only), usually not — Abyssinian oil is too light for that. For very fine hair, REJUVENIQE light by MONAT™ is the safe choice.
Does the oil repair damaged hair? No — it smooths and seals the surface, which makes hair feel softer and look healthier. Structural damage and split ends can be cosmetically disguised, but not undone.
Isn't erucic acid controversial? The debate concerns erucic acid in food, not on hair. As a cosmetic ingredient, Crambe Abyssinica Seed Oil has been widely used for years.
