Both oils come from the same family and share the same idea – only the feel in the hair differs. Rule of thumb: thicker, drier or stressed hair benefits from the rich REJUVENIQE® Oil Intensive, classically as a pre-wash treatment and for the ends. Fine hair that quickly looks weighed down is better served by the lighter REJUVENIQE® Light – a drop or two for everyday use. In the end, though, it's less the oil that decides than the amount: a few drops through the lengths nourish; too much at the roots looks greasy.
The quick decision
If you're not in the mood for long deliberations, here's the short version. Reach for the Original (Oil Intensive) if your hair is thick, dry, curly or chemically stressed and you're looking for an oil as a nourishing treatment. Reach for Light – provided it's offered in your market – if your hair is fine or straight, quickly looks flat, and you'd rather have an everyday, discreet finish.
Both are a care-and-styling oil, not a miracle cure. It is not a heat protectant and not a growth product – anyone who promises you that is selling you expectations the product can't keep. What an oil does well: suppleness, shine and a cared-for look to the ends. More on that in the guide to REJUVENIQE® oil.
The difference between the two oils
The Original REJUVENIQE® Oil Intensive is the richer of the two. It feels fuller, absorbs nicely into stronger hair and works well as a more intensive treatment – for instance before washing or applied specifically to dry ends. In fine hair, though, that very richness can become a drawback: just one drop too many settles heavily on the hair and makes it look flat rather than cared for.
REJUVENIQE® Light is – as the name says – the lighter version. The feel is less full, it weighs the hair down less and can be dosed more finely for small daily use. For fine or quickly greasy hair, that is often the more pleasant feel.
Whether Light is currently sold in your country is something you should check in the official range – availability varies from market to market. If it isn't offered where you are, that's no problem: the Original works for almost every hair type as long as you keep the amount small.
Choose the Original if …
- your hair is thick, strong or coarse in structure and "takes" oil well.
- the lengths are dry, brittle or chemically treated (bleaching, colouring, lots of heat) and can handle a more intensive portion.
- you mainly want to use the oil as a pre-wash treatment or for the ends, not as a daily finish.
- you have curls or waves that need moisture and definition – see also the basics on texture and care.
In short: the thirstier and more robust your hair, the better the rich Original suits it.
Choose Light if …
- your hair is fine, thin or straight and quickly looks weighed down.
- your roots tend towards a greasy sheen and you want only a minimum of oil.
- you want to use the oil daily in a small amount – a drop through the ends, no more.
- the full feel of the Original was too much for you in the past.
If you find yourself nodding several times here, Light is worth a look – and, alongside it, our guide to fine hair & volume, which shows how to keep fullness rather than smothering it with product.
Who needs neither
Not every head of hair needs an extra oil. You can happily go without if:
- your hair feels healthy, soft and balanced – then your normal routine is entirely enough.
- your real issue sits at the scalp (itching, flakes, quick greasiness at the roots) – that should be treated at the root, not masked with oil through the lengths.
- you have very fine hair and struggle with volume – then even Light is often already too much, and you're better served with a light moisturising care.
An oil is an extra, not a compulsory step. If your hair doesn't "want" it, don't force it on.
Amount & application
The most important sentence up front, honestly: "more oil" is not "better". The amount decides whether the result looks cared for or greasy – and that applies to both oils equally. Always start with less than you think and work your way up slowly.
- As a pre-wash treatment: work a somewhat more generous amount through lengths and ends, let it sit briefly, then wash as usual. Here the Original in particular tolerates a larger portion, because it's rinsed out afterwards.
- Into damp ends: distribute one to two drops (Light) or a few drops (Original) in your palms and apply to towel-dried, damp hair – lengths and ends, not the roots.
- As a finish in dry hair: only a tiny remnant on your palms, gently smoothed over the ends and flyaways. This is the step where the most goes wrong – less is almost always more here.
Rule of thumb for the roots: hands off the roots. Oil belongs in the lengths and ends; at the roots it only creates the greasy look no one wants. The exact technique – palms rather than dabbing on spot by spot, damp hair preferred – can be found step by step in the guide how to use hair oil.
Can you combine the two?
Yes, it's even a sensible route if your hair has two needs. A practical logic: the Original now and then as a more intensive pre-wash treatment for dry ends, and Light – where available – for the daily, light finish that doesn't weigh hair down. That way you get the richness where it's rinsed out and the lightness where the oil stays in the hair.
The combination isn't essential, though. Anyone who's careful with dosing usually gets along fine with just one of the two oils. As a MONAT consultant, my advice is: start with one, watch how your hair reacts, and only add the second once you notice a use case is missing.
Quick questions
Is REJUVENIQE a heat protectant, or does it stimulate hair growth? No, neither. It is a care-and-styling oil for suppleness, shine and a cared-for look to the ends – not a heat protectant and not a growth product.
I have fine hair – is the Original off-limits? No. You just have to keep the amount small: a single drop through the ends, never at the roots. If the feel is still too full for you, Light – where available in your market – is the more pleasant choice.
Why does my hair look greasy after the oil rather than cared for? Almost always because it was too much or the oil sat too close to the roots. Take less, lengths and ends only, and when in doubt use it as a pre-wash treatment that gets rinsed out again.
How do I know whether I can even get Light? Check the official range in your country – availability varies from market to market. If Light isn't listed where you are, the Original in a small amount covers almost every hair type.
