If your hair is brittle, snaps easily or has been over-processed by coloring, bleaching and heat, BOND IQ is made for exactly those lengths. It's a leave-in that stays in the hair after washing and, day to day, makes the lengths look smoother, more manageable and more resilient. To get the best from it, timing, amount and a little patience all matter. Honest up front: BOND IQ cares for and protects the hair — it doesn't structurally rebuild damaged fibers. The payoff is in the feel, the look, and less avoidable breakage while you style.
Where BOND IQ fits in your routine
BOND IQ is a leave-in, so it belongs at the start of your leave-in care — not in the cleansing step. The order is simple: shampoo first, rinse out conditioner if you use it, and then apply BOND IQ to damp, towel-dried hair. Damp, not dripping: if the hair is too wet, the product dilutes and spreads unevenly.
The key point is that BOND IQ sits before styling and before any heat protectant you apply to dry hair. It's the base layer on the lengths that everything else builds on — blow-drying, straightening, air-drying.
How much — and where exactly
Start with a small amount. Less is almost always more here: too much product weighs down fine hair especially and can look stringy. Work BOND IQ mainly through the mid-lengths and ends — the parts that are oldest and most stressed.
Leave out the roots and scalp. The root is fresh and doesn't need this extra care; applied close to the scalp it can make hair look flat and greasy sooner. Smooth the leave-in in with your hands, then comb it gently through the lengths with a wide-tooth comb — that reaches every strand evenly and helps with detangling at the same time.
Your wash-day sequence
- Cleanse with shampoo as usual and rinse well.
- Use conditioner if you like, then rinse thoroughly.
- Gently squeeze with a towel until the hair is damp rather than wet.
- Apply a small amount of BOND IQ to mid-lengths and ends, skipping the roots.
- Comb it evenly through the lengths with a wide-tooth comb.
- Apply heat protectant and style as usual.
Working with heat protection and styling
BOND IQ doesn't replace a heat protectant — the two work hand in hand. First the nourishing leave-in layer, then the heat protectant, then the tool. On over-processed hair this combination is the whole point: well-cared-for, protected lengths break less often when you blow-dry, brush or straighten. The heat protectant sits alongside the leave-in, not instead of it.
When styling, still use the lowest sensible temperature and as few passes as possible. BOND IQ makes hair smoother and easier to comb, which reduces mechanical tension during detangling — but it doesn't make heat harmless.
How often — and what to realistically expect
On clearly stressed hair, BOND IQ can be used at every wash. As the hair settles, you can scale back to as-needed — for instance when you notice the ends turning rough or unruly again.
Expect a feel-and-care benefit, not a repair: the hair feels stronger and better cared for, is easier to manage and breaks less while you style. That's a win for look and handling — not structural healing. Whether BOND IQ as an ongoing routine or the spot finish REJUVABEADS suits you better is covered in our guide BOND IQ or REJUVABEADS. And once split ends have travelled up the length, only a cut helps in the end — no leave-in removes split ends.
Quick questions
On wet or towel-dried hair? Towel-dried. Squeeze gently so the hair is damp but not dripping — that's when the leave-in spreads best.
Can I use BOND IQ every day? It's made for every wash. On very stressed hair use it regularly; otherwise simply as needed — too much product weighs the lengths down.
Does BOND IQ replace my heat protectant? No. Apply BOND IQ first, then the heat protectant, then style. The two complement each other.
Does it repair damaged hair? No. It cares for and protects, so the lengths look stronger and break less — but it doesn't heal the fiber.
