MONAT systems compared: which one fits you?

Overview of the MONAT hair care systems
Part of our topic guide: MONAT Hair Care: Systems, How to Use Them, What Fits You

MONAT doesn't offer one care system but several, each with a clear job. If you're looking for the first time, it's easy to lose the thread: which line is made for me? The answer doesn't start with the price or the biggest set, but with three questions. What's my main goal, the thing that bothers me most day to day? How does my scalp behave, does it turn oily fast or feel tight? And how thick is each individual strand? With those three answers, almost every path leads to the right line.

What this means at MONAT

Fine hair is weighed down quickly by rich formulas; strong hair tolerates and often needs more. That's exactly why at MONAT we choose by scalp, strand thickness, hair condition and main goal, not by the label "dry" or "oily". Each system has a role, and you rarely need more than one of them as your base. This overview sorts the lines by who they're made for and who they're less suited to. How you wash with one in everyday life is shown in the guide how to wash your hair.

Advanced Hydration

For you if your hair feels dry, looks dull or is hard to comb through, and is on the fine-to-medium side. The role of this line is moisture without weight: it makes hair softer and shinier while staying light enough that your roots don't collapse. Advanced Hydration isn't the right pick for very strong, severely dried-out hair that can absorb more, or when your real issue is volume rather than dryness.

Renew

For you if your hair is clearly dry, often stressed, and medium-to-strong. Renew™ is the richer moisture line, and it can do more because thicker hair takes in more care without going flat. Its role is to make brittle, thirsty hair feel noticeably softer and more manageable. Renew™ isn't ideal for fine hair: here the rich formula quickly becomes too much and drags the roots down. In that case, Advanced Hydration is the lighter alternative, and which of the two fits is settled in the guide Advanced Hydration or Renew.

Revive

For you if your hair looks mostly flat, limp and thin and falls apart right at the roots, classically fine hair. The role of Revive™ is lightness and grip: it cleanses thoroughly, adds body and makes fine hair look fuller and more defined without weighing it down. Revive™ isn't the answer when your main problem is genuine dryness or breakage. Then you need moisture or resilience rather than volume, and a richer line fits better.

IR Clinical

For you if your hair looks thinner than it used to and you want visibly more fullness. IR Clinical™ is a densifying care system. Its role is to make hair look denser and fuller and to care for the scalp, where fullness is decided. IR Clinical™ isn't the right tool for real, ongoing hair loss. Bald patches, a clearly widening part or hair coming out in clumps belong in the hands of a doctor, because the causes range from hormones to medical conditions.

Bond IQ

For you if your hair breaks easily, frays or feels weakened after colouring, bleaching or frequent heat styling. The role of the strengthening Bond IQ™ system is resilience: it helps hair look and feel suppler and more robust and protects the lengths during combing and styling. Bond IQ™ isn't the answer for split ends you already have, because split ends can't be glued back together, and only scissors help there. It can, however, help prevent new breakage. How this differs from an ends finish is covered in Bond IQ or Rejuvabeads.

Smoothing Anti-Frizz

For you if your hair frizzes in humidity, sprouts flyaways and is hard to keep smooth, especially on muggy days. The role of this line is a calmer, smoother surface: it makes hair more supple and easier to style. Choose by your hair thickness: strong hair handles the fuller version, fine hair prefers the lighter one. Which that is comes down to the guide Smoothing System I or II. Frizz isn't your main theme if your hair actually sits well and it's only volume or your scalp that concerns you.

Purifying Vinegar (scalp care)

For you if your roots turn oily quickly or you feel a film of product residue (build-up) after a while. The role of the Purifying Vinegar line is a thorough deep-cleanse: it helps gently dissolve deposits and lets the scalp breathe freely. It's meant as an occasional clarify, not for every wash. It isn't ideal for a dry, sensitive scalp that would rather be soothed than clarified. Then Scalp Comfort is the better choice.

Scalp Comfort

For you if your scalp feels dry, irritated or tight and what you want most is a sense of calm. The role of Scalp Comfort is gentle scalp care: it supports a comfortable, soothed feel rather than intensive cleansing. It isn't the right system for fast-oiling roots and build-up. There you need the clarifying action of Purifying, not more soothing.

Quick questions

Do I need several systems at once?

In most cases, no. Pick one base by your main goal and add at most one or two targeted extras for your secondary theme. More lines don't mean better hair, just more confusion.

What if several goals apply to me?

That's normal. Decide on the theme that bothers you most and make it your base. Dryness, frizz or scalp can be addressed on the side with a masque, an oil or the occasional clarify.

Can a care system stop hair loss?

No. MONAT systems are cosmetics and care for how hair looks. They can make it look fuller and stronger, but they don't treat medical hair loss. For ongoing loss, medical advice is the right route.

If you're unsure where to start, the guide Which MONAT shampoo is right for me? helps you choose the base. To turn a system into an everyday routine, see the article on building a hair-care routine. And if you want it as simple as possible, the simple MONAT routine with 3 products is the leanest starting point.
